International Conference
Language Teacher Education and Language Teaching in Oceania: Plurilingual Perspectives
28-29 January 2026 • Tahiti, French Polynesia
Join educators and researchers in Tahiti for a conference on plurilingual perspectives in language teaching in the Pacific region.
About the Conference
This conference seeks to explore language teacher education and language teaching practices in the Oceanic region. This region is marked by deep cultural and linguistic diversity, shaped by complex histories of colonisation and migration that have given rise to varied but often fragile forms of plurilingualism. The conference brings together the multiple dimensions of linguistic and cultural plurality, and how political, cultural, linguistic, and ecological factors influence language education in the region.
We welcome contributions that address initial and ongoing teacher education; the experiences and perspectives of language teachers and educational stakeholders; linguistically responsive pedagogies and curricula; and language policy and planning that support plurilingualism. The conference will also provide space for discussions around the challenges and opportunities presented by linguistic diversity, the revitalisation of autochthonous languages, the teaching of heritage languages, and the promotion of foreign language learning.
By gathering diverse voices and research, this conference aims to deepen our understanding of how language teaching and teacher education can respond meaningfully to the linguistic and cultural complexities of Oceania by applying an inclusive plurilingual perspective.
